Mechanical engineering is a diverse subject that derives its breadth from the need to design and manufacture everything from small individual parts and devices to large .It combines creativity, knowledge and analytical tools to complete the difficult task of shaping an idea into reality.

Mechanical engineers have an enormous range of opportunity and their education mirrors this breadth of subjects. Students concentrate on one area while strengthening analytical and problem-solving skills applicable to any engineering situation. 

            Society depends on mechanical engineering. The need for this expertise is great in so many fields, and as such, there is no real limit for the freshly minted mechanical engineer. Jobs are always in demand, particularly in the automotive, aerospace, production and energy industries. 

      The department was established with an undergraduate program in Mechanical engineering in 2012.  The department also has its very own association named ARMS (Association for Royal Mechanical Engineering Students) which also aims at development of leadership as well as technical skills among the students

 Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest and core engineering stream which is evergreen in every sense. In this fast changing world it has become imperative to breed a new generation of mechanical engineers with sound basics and highly innovative mind. From its very inception, the department has offered quality tutelage to the students and to the college as a whole.   • To impart formal education in Mechanical engineering and allied areas at under graduate levels by integrating a variety of project experiences at every level throughout the curriculum. They should be able to apply with confidence the knowledge in Mechanical engineering through research in the science and technology. To share knowledge through educational programs and the dissemination of our new discoveries. To develop linkages with world class R&D organizations and educational institutions in India and abroad for excellence in teaching, research, consultancy practices and entrepreneurship.

  • To link the human resource with the knowledge base in the field of Mechanical engineering in such a way that the challenges faced by the mankind in optimum utilization of the materials resources are successfully met with.

  • To stride on every front of knowledge dissemination through teaching learning process, research and development and offering expert solutions to technological problems.

  • To integrate human resource with highest attainable level of knowledge on materials with various channels functioning for its efficient dissemination for welfare of mankind.

  • To develop linkages with world class R&D organizations and educational institutions in India and abroad for excellence in teaching, research, consultancy practices and entrepreneurship.

Program Educational Objectives

To provide the students with

  1. To understand the facets of advanced technologies/processes necessary in the engineering field

  2. To apply the concepts to solve the engineering problems in a scientific and systematic way

  3. For professional and research careers in the field of Mechanical engineering

  4. To appreciate the significance of team work and collaborations in designing, planning, and implementing solutions for practical problems and facilitate the networking with national research and academic organizations.

 
 
Program Outcomes

After completion of the course, B. Tech Automobile Engineering graduates will have an ability to:

  1. Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

  2. Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

  3. Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

  4. Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

  5. Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

  6. Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

  7. Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

  8. Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

  9. Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

  10. Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

  11. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

  12. Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Program Specific Outcomes
  • Be able to apply their knowledge of engineering to solve complex problems using fundamental principles in combination with modern engineering tools and methods;

  • Be able to use engineering principles to conceptualize, create, model, test, and evaluate designs within a context of local and global needs

  • Be lifelong learners who understand evolving technical, business, and societal issues as well as their ethical responsibilities that impact their engineering profession and the welfare of others.

ARMS- Association of Royal Mechanical Engineering Students

The ARMS, aims to play a vital role in the development of students as engineers by various out-of-curriculum and extracurricular activities. ARMS aims to provide an awareness and appreciation of the various disciplines of not just Mechanical Engineering but also other relevant fields among its members. By way of its activities ARMS aims to be a platform for all the students at MCT, in general and particularly of the students of ME department. ARMS seeks to be an active organization of the ME department at MCT which promotes their career interests.
