The students of our prestigious institution is participating in a ‘BLOOD STEM CELL DONOR REGISTRY CAMP’ in association DATRI BLOOD STEM CELL DONOR REGISTRYon 29th of March 2017 10 am with a mission to save lives of those suffering from life threatening blood disorders like Blood Cancer, Thalassemia, Aplastic Anaemia etc. A blood stem cell transplant can save the lives of such patients. With very few registered donors available in India, the possibility of finding a match for an Indian anywhere in the world is very bleak. Inspired by the registries in USA and motivated to create a viable registry of Indian donors, Mr. Raghu Rajagopal together with Dr. Nezih Cereb and Dr. Soo Young Yang of Histogenetics, a global leader in high resolution HLA typing, set up DATRI (meaning donor in Sanskrit) with a donor base of a mere 3000 donors in 2009. DATRI is working towards creating a wide and diverse database of potential blood stem cell donors that can be accessed by any patient, living anywhere in the world, in need of a blood stem cell transplant.
Through systematic donor drives, DATRI seeks to build awareness and enrol potential blood stem cell donors. DATRI is registered member with World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA) and follows WMDA guidelines and processes. DATRI is also a recognized member of Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide (BMDW).
